A select group of ultra-competent persons that Tesral has appointed to aid and defend the Eyrian Empire. A Knight is strictly volunteer, and serves for life, no matter how long that life might be, and it can be very long. A Knight is second to Tesral himself in authority within the Empire. They speak with his voice and act with his will. In matters of law they can act as judge and executioner. They can call upon the resources of the Empire for whatever they deem necessary, and for personal reasons as well. Each Knight receives the Ring of the Knights of Eyrie upon induction to the order. Each Knight can call upon a horse of superior quality, and one of the Knight Hawks raised in the Woodmanor mews.
The Oath of the Knights of Eyrie[]
I do solemnly pledge my life and my honor to uphold and defend the Eyrian Empire and the Crown of the Empire in its person Tesral the Justice Giver. To uphold and prosecute his laws and their principles. To promote and expand the greater welfare. To constitute myself the defender of his citizens and interests in foreign lands. This I swear by my name, my Lord Tesral, and what powers I hold sacred.
Ring of the Knights of Eyrie[]
The wearer is immune to fire and decapitation or other limb removal. Detect lie as a priest of Tesral's religion. Wearer does not age. The ring is a self contained seal. It cannot be separated from the living Knight.
The Checkbook[]
Not a literal book. Any Knight can write a check on the Imperial treasury for any expenses the Empire itself has sustained. Damages to a business, paying for major equipment and so forth. It is considered bad form to pay your inn bill. Written in the proper form and sealed with the ring these checks are bearer instruments. If the amount is useful they have circulated for years before showing up at a Treasury office to be redeemed.
These checks predate and are separate from the Imperial Banking System.
Bureau File[]
The only of these persons that have been encountered are Julian, HIH Aloria Kalayn Elsoria, and HIH Ambassador Jerlane. Knights are the embodiment of authoritarian single man rule. They have the entire of the justice system in one person, with no checks or balances.
- Julian: If anyone was to be granted that power then Julian is the one you would want to have it. In his every appearance on Earth he has been the soul of calm discretion. He can be found at UCLA teaching his brand of healing.
- HIH Aloria Kalayn Elsoria: She made her appearance at The Trial for Peoplehood as the titular leader of the Greyhawke delegation. Again she was the soul of grace and discretion. She took her titles as being of little matter.
- HIH Jerlane: Current Ambassador to the United States. Half Brother of Aloria Elsoria. A level headed fair man that is not quick to judge anyone.
Other Knights are known to exist. Coran the Golden for example has been mentioned as the Knight Commander. His only appearance was thankfully brief. Treat them politely if encountered as long as they remain within the law. Their extra judicial powers are not recognized by the United States.
